Besides the famous Hotel Sacher in Vienna and the Sacher in Salzburg, Elisabeth Gürtler now also manages the affairs of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The businesswoman and mother of two grown-up children is herself a horse expert and was an enthusiastic rider upt o 1990. She was national championship runnerup in dressage and started out in 1979 in the Austrian dressage team at the CHIO (Concours Hippique International Officiel) in Aachen. Was born in 1961 in Styria and received a PhD at the University of Vienna. She is a freelance author, translator and editor. She has written a series of travel guides, artibles on art and culture as well as biographies on Gustav Klimt and Sigmund Freud. Published recently were Hrdlicka, eine Hommage zum 80. Geburtstag (with T. Brandstaller), Gelebte Räume, Wie Architekten wohnen (with photos by J. Kalmár) and Coffee to Stay on the most beautiful cafés in Europe (with photos by Harald Eisenberger). She lives in Vienna.
