'Zu Dienst Einer Gottbegierigen Seelen' (kartoniertes Buch)
[»For the Service of a God-Desirous Soul«. Theological-Edifying Writings]
This edition makes accessible for the first time again what the initiator of Lutheran pietism, the lawyer Johann Jacob Schütz (1640–1690), published in writings of theological content. From 1670 to 1690, Schütz was the leader and motor of the church renewal movement in Frankfurt am Main, which he shaped, among other things, with his impetus for private religious gatherings outside of church services and with his rediscovery of the Bible. His outstanding knowledge of the Holy Scriptures is also reflected in his printed works. In manifold and eloquent form, they bear witness to the intensive efforts to consistently orientated Christian existence according to biblical rules of life. At the same time, however, this endeavor brought him into increasing distance to his church, and with the first public call for separation, Schütz finally became the originator of the separatist pietism in Lutheranism.
